Ready to Start Invisalign in Kyle? Here are Answers to Some of the Most FAQs about Invisalign
Everyone wants a beautiful smile, but not everyone wants to deal with metal brackets and braces to get it. At Oldham Family Orthodontics in Kyle, we completely understand that traditional metal braces are not everyone’s favorite solution. That’s why we offer Invisalign® to our patients.
Invisalign in Kyle allows you to wear a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. You don’t have to deal with brackets and wires, or worry about a lot of the food restrictions that you do with metal braces. Invisalign treatment is convenient, the aligners are easy to take care of, they’re discreet, and most importantly, they really work! We compiled a list of some of the most frequently asked questions about Kyle and Buda Invisalign to help you decide if this is the right treatment for you.
How does Invisalign work?
Once you’ve had a free consultation and completed a 3D scan in-office, Kyle Orthodontist Dr. Oldham will send the 3D model of your teeth off to Invisalign so your trays can start being made. You’ll get a set of clear, plastic aligners every few weeks that will shift your teeth more and more until they are in the correct position and you’re happy with your new smile. Your teeth will move into position at about the same pace as traditional braces; sometimes it takes a few months more and sometimes a few months less.
Am I too young or too old for Invisalign in Kyle?
There is no “right” age for Invisalign treatment. “You can be 86 years old and be in traditional braces or 14 years of age and be in Invisalign,” says Dr. Oldham. Teens and adults can both be treated with Invisalign, as long as they are confident they can keep a good track of their aligners and handle the responsibility. Kyle braces instead of Invisalign are usually a better option for young children, since they don’t have to worry about taking aligners on and off every time they eat or drink.
Do I have to wear my aligners every day? What about at night?
You should wear your aligners for about 22 hours every day and night, only taking them out to eat meals. When you are finished eating, you should brush your teeth and pop the aligners right back in. Maximizing the time you wear the aligners will ensure your treatment time is not prolonged beyond the typical 18-month to 2-year time frame.
Is Invisalign in Kyle more expensive than traditional Kyle braces?
Invisalign and traditional braces in Kyle are very comparable in price, and you don’t have to pay for all your treatment up front. You can customize a payment plan that will work for you. At Oldham Family Orthodontics in Kyle we offer an excellent financing program for every budget. We offer zero percent interest financing for the length of the treatment, and we’ll also allow you to take those payments out a little beyond the treatment time to keep the monthly amount down. With a variety of payment options, you can customize your down payment to fit your needs.
What if I’ve had braces or other dental work done in the past?
You can still get Invisalign! Many adults who had braces as a child or teenager come back to the orthodontist in Kyle and decide on Invisalign in Kyle because their teeth have shifted for various reasons. As you age, your teeth can change, and it’s not uncommon for adults who have previously had orthodontic treatment to seek out Invisalign. During your consultation Kyle Orthodontist Dr. Oldham will take photos and x-rays of your teeth to determine if Invisalign is the right option for you, but in most cases it’s a great fit.
How will Buda Invisalign treatment affect my life?
When you receive a new set of aligners every couple of weeks, your mouth may be sore and uncomfortable for the first few days. Beyond that, you can still do everything you could do before and you won’t need to adjust your eating habits much as long as you brush your teeth after eating. We hope the greatest effect will be improved self-confidence in your new smile!
How do I take care of my aligners?
The Invisalign aligners can be rinsed with water and brushed gently with a toothbrush to remove any food particles. You’ll want to clean them between meals and soak them in a disinfecting solution every now and then to keep them fresh. You can soak them in a mixture of baking soda and water or even denture cleanser.
Does Invisalign hurt as much as braces? Will it give me headaches?
Because both Kyle Invisalign and Kyle braces are designed to move your teeth into position, you will feel occasional pressure and might feel sore on and around your teeth. This can cause discomfort and headaches from time to time, most frequently when you’ve just started a new set of aligners. Taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen with a glass of water can help relieve some of that pressure and usually improves most headaches.
How soon will I start to see results with Invisalign in Kyle?
Most patients see results in a few months, but others can start to see subtle changes right away. It all depends on how much your teeth need to shift and if you’re wearing your aligners correctly and for as long as possible.
Should I avoid any foods while I’m undergoing Invisalign treatment?
There are no specific foods that you can’t eat, but you should avoid drinking soda while wearing the aligners. Soda can get trapped underneath your aligners, which can lead to bacteria buildup.
How long will I need to wear a retainer after I’m done with Invisalign?
Once your teeth are in the correct positions and you’re done wearing Kyle Invisalign aligners, Kyle orthodontist Dr. Oldham will order you a set of retainers to keep your teeth in place for the eventual future. For the first 3 to 6 months after treatment, you’ll need to wear your retainers for 12 to 22 hours a day. After 6 months you can just wear them at night to keep your teeth where they need to be. These retainers are very similar to Invisalign aligners. They’re clear, plastic, and virtually unnoticeable.
The main advantage to Invisalign in Kyle is that you can straighten your teeth in a very subtle, elegant way without anyone even noticing. Invisalign takes about the same amount of time as Kyle braces, costs about the same, and is a great option for optimizing your smile.
